Genshin Impact released a new trailer on July 23, introducing a new region called Sumeru. Unlike the high mountains in Liyue and isolated islands in Inazuma, the region consists of rainforests and deserts, with historical remains resisting sandstorms and cities built on giant trees. Players guess the region might be based on Egypt or India.

The environment art designer, Jax Huang, explains the idea of designing Sumeru, “besides displaying the natural charm of rainforests and deserts, we also add many fantasies. We are always exploring the boundary of designing, making balance among erotic elements, fantasies, and realities”. To improve the interest in exploring Sumeru, designers also add two giant ruined automatons separately in a rainforest and a desert.

The introduction of Sumeru echoes the former trailer for version 3.0, where the element Dendro was explained. Both the terrains in Sumeru (rainforests and deserts) and the elemental reactions relating to Dendro (bloom, catalyze, and burning) represent the growth and fading of lives.
