Nearly 70% of Chinese Internet Users Agree Esports are Sports

About 66.8% of Chinese Internet users regard esports as sports, similar to traditional sports like soccer and basketball, according to the 2022 Esports Industry Development Report.

This is the highest percentage among the surveyed group of Asian countries, including Indonesia, South Korea, Japan, etc.

Meanwhile, 70.3% of respondents said they agree esports should be included in the Olympic Games or other regional sports conferences. And 80.2% of respondents said esports should be independent and have its own events or tournaments.

The report was jointly released by Tencent Horizon, Tencent Esports and the Asian Electronic Sports Federation (AESF) at the Global Esports Summit, a two-day conference held in Hangzhou starting on July 26th.
