On August 11th, Tower of Fantasy had its worldwide release. Understandably, a new game would have many glitches and imperfections, however, one of those bugs rubbed Japanese players in the worng way, and it can all be just a misunderstanding.
As an online action RPG, players must choose a server in Tower of Fantasy before starting play. Some Japanese players found hidden test servers showing at the end of the server list and one of them is called “JP Fuc Test Server”.
A screenshot of Tower of Fantasy’s server list shows some test servers were mistakenly revealed to normal players.
Players were sharing their thoughts about it on Twitter. Many believed the word “Fuc” was a short form of the F word and they were angry about “the hatred of the game provider”. Some others claimed “Fuc” could be a short form of “Function” or “Functional Upgrade Check” which means the developers have no intention of insulting people.
Later that day, the official Twitter of Tower of Fantasy posted an announcement with apologies. They clarified that the mistake was caused by human error and they were sorry for the chaos it brought. They also explained the word “Fuc” means “Functional Upgrade Check” which is used in other regions like the EU as well.
本日、開発チームがサーバーの問題を対処していた際に、誤操作でテストサーバーを一時的にアップしてしまいました為、皆様の混乱を招いてしまい大変申し訳ございません。
