A stylish horror game is currently trending on Chinese internet.
It looks like a legitimate game, with a very detialed steam page, and a description of it being "a game to play as anyone in this wuxia world", and players can “make choices, experience different lives”.
However for anyone who wish to try out the game, they would be disappointed, becaue this game, and the discussion aournd it, is merely a modern version of polybius, a game that everyone talkes about, but never actually existed.
This June,a post about a game named DaoGuiYiXian (Strange Faith, Alien Fairy) on Steam, the OP claimed that they had played the game for 1919 hours and introduced some boss characters and mechanics of the game.

The description of the game provokes imagination, and the art style is purely sublime. Soon, many people started posting what appears to be game features and screen shots of different characters, begginner guides, and even “reposted dev blogs”.

But the game never existed. In-game screenshots are generated by AI, and the steam page is simply photoshopped. DaoGuiYiXian is actually a web light novel that touches on weird meta worlds where rumors can be so powerful and become real when everyone believes in them. The entire dramma is just a collectively forged urban myth, a modern era polybius.
There are many interesting details that we could not cover in this article, but we do know that DaoGuiYiXian, the novel, will actually have its game. We just hope the actual game would look as mythical, bizzare and stunning as described in the legends.
