CNG’s August 2022 Gaming Industry Report shows that the actual sales revenue of China's game market in August this year was CNY 20.07 billion, down 21.91% YoY and 3.85% MoM.

Due to the summer break bonus, the MoM decline rate slightly contracted compared with July.

CNG thinks that the MoM decline is mainly due to new games that came out in august that did not meet expectations.

Existing mobile games had an outstanding performance, especially with the "summer activities" held by many games. However, the mobile gaming industry is still lacking new games in August. This has already happened in July. The lack of new products and competitiveness led to the shrinkage of the market.

The report also shows that the actual sales revenue of China's PC game market was 5.241 billion yuan, down 0.46% YoY and down 0.94% MoM. CNG thinks that the reason for this double decline is mainly due to the fund flow decline of the head products like League of Legends and DNF. Also, existing games put out activities that mainly focus on promoting vitality and attracting returning players.

According to Sensor Tower, in the first half of this year, the US and Japan mobile game markets declined by 9.6% and 12.7%. Despite the tough environment, Chinese game developers have still achieved good results in overseas markets. The actual sales revenue of China’s self-developed games in overseas markets was 1.425 billion US dollars, up 1.76% MoM.
