If you have watched the new DC superhero film Black Adam, you probably were thrilled to see the teaser at the end of that movie that confirmed Henry Cavill's return as Superman.

However, it's not happening.

Cavill revealed on Instagram that after a friendly conversation with DC Film's bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran, they came up with this decision that Cavill will no longer be involved in the upcoming plans for the DC Universe.

Gunn tweeted shortly after Cavill's post:

Peter & I have a DC slate ready to go, which we couldn’t be more over-the-moon about; we’ll be able to share some exciting information about our first projects at the beginning of the new year. Among those on the slate is Superman. In the initial stages, our story will be focusing on an earlier part of Superman’s life, so the character will not be played by Henry Cavill. But we just had a great meeting with Henry and we’re big fans and we talked about a number of exciting possibilities to work together in the future.

Gunn also says that despite the new Superman film will be focusing on a younger version of the character, it will not be an origin story.
