The Game Developers Conference (GDC) is the absolute focus point for video game developers right now. This year's GDC was held on March 22nd - 25th as scheduled. Here’s a list of talks we believe are most valuable and worth noting.

1.  A Guided Tour of Blackreef: Rendering Technologies in Deathloop (Presented by AMD)

Deathloop is a 2021 first-person shooter video game developed by Arkane Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. It received generally favorable reviews from critics, who praised the art design and gameplay. Deathloop won Best Game Direction and Best Art Direction at The Game Awards 2021.

This talk is about how Arkane Lyon was able to depict the deadly beauty of Blackreef thanks to their proprietary Void engine, freshly ported to DirectX 12 and full of amazing features.

2. Adventures with Deferred Texturing in 'Horizon Forbidden West'

Horizon Forbidden West is a 2022 action role-playing game developed by Guerrilla Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Horizon Forbidden West was released on 18 February 2022 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 and received generally favorable reviews.

This talk is about how a deferred texturing system can be constructed utilizing high-performance computing processors.

3. Unity's Newest Game Demo (Presented by Unity)

At GDC 2022, Unity will unveil a new sample game created and developed internally to showcase the power of Unity 2021 LTS and other Unity solutions working together.

Attendees will be introduced to Unity’s newest sample game and learn about the development team’s challenges and their solutions.

4.The Many Challenges of Making 'Baldur's Gate 3'

Fans have been waiting for Baldur's Gate 3 for such a long time. Just how difficult is it to create a long-awaited sequel to a beloved series? How hard can it be to follow up on a critical success like Divinity: Original Sin 2? Working on Baldur's Gate 3 is a monumental challenge, responsibility, and exciting prospect.

Swen Vincke (Creative Director) from Larian Studios, will present the various challenges and lessons Larian has learned during the development of Baldur's Gate 3. From dealing with fan expectations and establishing the team's vision to scaling up effectively without jeopardizing the core beliefs that got Larian to where it is today.

5.Tale of Immortal: How To Sell 1.8 Million Copies in Chinese Market Within One Month (Presented by Leiting Games)

Tale of Immortal is an open-world sandbox based on Chinese mythology and cultivation, which received a lot of favorable reviews from Chinese players.

In this session Lightning Games will share why they decided to publish Tale of Immortal (TOI), a Chinese cultivation simulation game that has a little audience base, under the situation of FPS, Roguelike and other categories that already have a large group of the player base.

They also share their standard and preference of publishing games with detailed explanations of the current Chinese PC & console games market situation, to give insights for overseas developers and to those who are interested in the Chinese market.

Communities of Practice represent one of Ubisoft's main advantages in terms of corporate culture, talents, engagement, and collaboration. During the last 10 years, Ubisoft is leveraging internal communities of practice to stay close to its developers and to the production reality.

The talk will present Ubisoft's global framework of Communities of Practice (CoP) and some key learnings around several initiatives of collective intelligence in production, from the Senior Producers community to the creation of the Tech Advisory board, that all have contributed to foster Ubisoft's production excellence.
