May 23 marks the 7th anniversary of the passing of the hero Wu Hongyu, who sacrificed himself for a justice cause. On May 23, 2016, at the age of only 20, Wu Hongyu saw someone stealing his friend's motorcycle and tried to chase down the thief. Ultimately, Wu Hongyu was tragically injured in a following traffic accident. Soon after being taken to the hospital, he passed away.

His last post on social media read, "Is anyone waiting for Overwatch's opening tomorrow?" However, he sacrificed himself on May 23, the very day before "Overwatch" launched.

Guangdong University of Technology released a statement on its official Weibo account titled "Heroes Never Die" in commemoration of Wu Hongyu. Blizzard Entertainment also included Wu Hongyu in "Overwatch." In the Lijiang Tower map, he appears as an astronaut with his name "Hongyu" printed on his suit. The background panel behind him reads "Heroes Never Die".
