In an unexpected turn of events, Rockstar Games has announced the hiring of the team behind the renowned GTA 5 FiveM and RDR2 RedM multiplayer mods, known as Cfx.re. The news comes as a significant surprise, as this same team was banned from playing the game in 2015.

Back in 2015, the Cfx.re team was banned despite their attempts to comply with Rockstar's rules concerning modding in the official GTA Online mode. They even created their own multiplayer service, separate from GTA Online, but faced a ban nonetheless. At that time, Rockstar stated, "The FiveM project is an unauthorized alternate multiplayer service that contains code designed to facilitate piracy." The involved individuals had their Social Club accounts suspended.

However, the climate has changed, and Rockstar has recently eased its rules around roleplaying mods. In a welcome twist, the studio is now embracing the modders and incorporating them into their fold.

In an official statement, Rockstar Games declared, "Today, we are proud to announce that Cfx.re — the team behind the biggest Rockstar roleplay and creator communities, FiveM and RedM — are now officially a part of Rockstar Games."

Rockstar's admiration for the creative community and their expansion of the worlds of Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2 has led to this partnership. The move aims to further support the roleplay creative community and explore new ways to enhance the services offered to developers and players alike.

In addition to this collaboration, Rockstar Games also acknowledged the establishment of Absurd Ventures by co-founder and creative director Dan Houser, who left the company in 2020. The new media company aims to create fresh intellectual properties across various platforms and formats.

This partnership between Rockstar and Cfx.re symbolizes a new era of cooperation and creativity within the gaming community, reflecting a positive change in the developer's approach to modding. The gaming world eagerly awaits what this collaboration will bring in the near future.
