Xbox 360
This November, as the Xbox 360 approaches its 18th anniversary, Microsoft has announced significant changes to the console's marketplace. Starting July 29, 2024, Microsoft will cease supporting the ability to purchase new games, DLC, and other entertainment content from the Xbox 360 Store on the console and the Xbox 360 Marketplace.
This shift also affects the Microsoft Movies & TV app, which will no longer function on the Xbox 360. Thus, TV and movie content will no longer be viewable on the Xbox 360 after the aforementioned date. However, users can continue purchasing games and DLC from the Xbox 360 Store and Xbox 360 Marketplace until July 2024.
Despite these changes, Microsoft reassures players that their ability to play Xbox 360 games or DLC previously purchased will remain unaffected. Xbox 360 game content will still be available not only on the Xbox 360 console but also on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S devices via backward compatibility.
Microsoft acknowledges that technology has evolved since the Xbox 360's launch in 2005 and remains committed to focusing on making the Xbox Series X|S the best place to play now and in the future. They also emphasize their commitment to preserving players' ability to play content they have already purchased on their preferred device, including the ongoing support for Xbox 360 gameplay for the foreseeable future.
With these changes, Microsoft demonstrates a balance between moving forward with newer technology and honoring the legacy of a generation-defining console that has brought joy to countless gamers worldwide.
