NBA 2K24 has made its debut, but not to the applause it might have hoped for. In fact, it's become one of the worst-rated games on Steam, trailing just behind Overwatch 2. After just four days and nearly 3,000 reviews, it received an "Overwhelmingly Negative" tag.

Much of the criticism centers on the game's microtransactions, which have been revamped to allow players to buy nearly any MyTeam card. This has led many players to label the game "pay-to-win," as it allows those willing to spend money to dominate in online multiplayer modes.
The PC version is also drawing flak for its subpar presentation compared to its console counterparts on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. While the console versions have benefited from technological advances for improved animations, the PC version hasn't— and 2K hasn't explained why. Numerous bugs and glitches, some carried over from NBA 2K23, add fuel to the fire. This has led to allegations that 2K and Visual Concepts have essentially "copied and pasted" content between games.

Adding to the list of grievances is the murky situation surrounding crossplay. While the game does support crossplay on current-gen platforms, it's not available in every mode, causing further confusion among players.
So far, 2K and Visual Concepts have yet to announce any plans for next-gen upgrades or fixes, leaving a frustrated player base awaiting answers.
