In a significant move to consolidate its game development prowess, EA Entertainment has announced the acquisition of Criterion Games, the studio known for its work on popular franchises like Battlefield, Battlefront, Burnout, and Need for Speed. Vince Zampella, Group General Manager overseeing Apex Legends, Star Wars Jedi, Battlefield, and Need for Speed, shared the news, expressing his excitement over the studio's addition to his portfolio.

The primary focus of this acquisition appears to be the Battlefield franchise. Criterion Games will be working closely with DICE, Ripple Effect, and Ridgeline, all under the supervision of Byron Beede, the General Manager of Battlefield. The move aims to bring a fresh wave of innovation and expertise to the ongoing development of Battlefield 2042, as well as future projects within the "connected Battlefield Universe."

Criterion's experience is expected to make an immediate positive impact, especially with its history of working on Battlefield titles. Vince Zampella noted, "There is no better studio to join us on this journey, and I couldn't be more excited."

The Need for Speed franchise will also continue to receive attention. Zampella, who has previously worked on Apex Legends, Titanfall, and Star Wars Jedi, revealed his passion for cars, hinting at the potential synergies between his interests and Criterion’s expertise as they shape the future of the Need for Speed franchise.

The gaming community is keen to see how Criterion's integration will impact EA Entertainment’s long-standing franchises. The move promises an invigorated approach to game development, setting the stage for the next chapter in these iconic series.
