In a historic announcement at the opening ceremony of the 141st International Olympic Committee (IOC) meeting held in Mumbai, IOC President Thomas Bach unveiled plans to host an esports Olympic Games.

Addressing the topic of esports, President Thomas Bach highlighted the global prevalence of esports and gaming, with approximately 3 billion people participating in these activities worldwide. It is estimated that over 500 million individuals hold a particular interest in esports. Notably, the majority of esports enthusiasts are aged 34 or younger.

Furthermore, President Bach revealed, "I have asked our new IOC Esports Commission to study the creation of the Olympic Esports Games."
