Tencent Games has subtly initiated a significant move by filing a trademark for 'Honor of Kings: World' in India, suggesting an impending launch of the much-anticipated game in the country. Filed on November 9, 2023, the trademark application is currently under examination, with no immediate feedback from the authorities.

'Honor of Kings: World,' a spin-off from the highly successful 'Honor of Kings' IP, is an open-world RPG developed by TiMi Studio Group and published by Tencent Games. The game, first announced in November 2021, offers players an expansive world to explore, featuring intense battles against formidable world bosses and a host of adventurous quests.

Despite this proactive step, the game's release in India might face delays due to the country's lengthy trademark regulation processes. Traditionally, the entire trademark registration procedure in India can span anywhere from 6 to 18 months. If objections arise, the process could extend to 18 months, while a straightforward application might conclude within 8 months.

The current status of Tencent’s application indicates that it is still in the early days of the registration process. However, Indian trademark law has provisions that offer protection to well-known foreign trademarks, even those not registered in India. This legal framework could potentially allow Tencent to conduct tests and launch 'Honor of Kings: World' in India, even as the trademark registration is ongoing.

The original 'Honor of Kings' has been a resounding success in China since its 2015 release, leading to an international adaptation titled 'Arena of Valor,' also published by Level Infinite. This mobile game achieved a milestone by surpassing $10 billion in revenue, marking it as a major success in the mobile gaming sector. The game's popularity has raised expectations for its upcoming AAA spin-off, 'Honor of Kings: World.'

While Tencent Games has not officially confirmed the Indian release of 'Honor of Kings: World,' the recent trademark filing has stirred excitement among Indian gamers. The anticipation is high, with many eager to see the game make its debut in India’s gaming market, potentially sooner than expected.
