Shu Dao Xing (Road to Shu, 蜀道行) has raised a lot of attention. Inspired by the Sanxingdui Ruins, this game is designed to provide an immersive adventure experience surrounded by mythical ancient Chinese tales, elements, and arts.

The game is, surprisingly, designed and executed by a team of undergraduate students as their graduation project.

“A fourteen-year-old boy, Lu Lin, accidentally went into the mountains and discovered an ancient Shu temple. With guidance from a mythical human-like creature with the head of a bull and the body of a man, Qiu Kui, the young teen ventures his way to the grand discovery of Shu’s secrets…”

According to the 8 student developers, their path was no easy deal. The team had to adapt several UE 5 versions, from EA to Preview, and finally, the current 5.0.2 version. As students, they invested numerous hours into learning and mastering the new engine – and the outcome turns out to be rewarding.

The team also claimed to handcraft all the in-game Sanxingdui-related art materials. Only a portion of mountain and rock materials were from UE’s official Quixel Bridge assets.

The demo was exhibited in the West Lake Museum, as part of the college graduation game design exhibition, from June 1 to June 12. The game’s PV and in-game demonstration altogether received many local fans’ applause and support.
