Minecraft Has Become a University Optional Course in China

On June 22nd, NetEase announced on Weibo that Minecraft would collaborate with Xiamen University. Minecraft will participate in the optional course “Interactive design case study” for software engineering.

Minecraft is a popular game among students due to its creative potential. There is frequent news about students, from Junior to College, recreating their campus in Minecraft.

In that optional course at Xiamen University, the college students will learn how to realize all kinds of wild ideas from multiple Minecraft case studies. The Minecraft game designer from NetEase will also join as a selective instructor teaching those students about the official editing tools of Minecraft.

Xiamen University is not the only university that collaborated with Minecraft. Shanghai Film Academy had a similar collaboration on March 25th as well. According to NetEase, there will be more universities joining in the future.
