Today, Kuro Games, the developer of the famous mobile action RPG Punishing: Gray Raven, announced that the studio’s latest open-world RPG Wuthering Waves has officially opened its first beta test. As Kuro’s third game and another action RPG after Punishing: Gray Raven, Wuthering Waves used an open-world design and integrates Kuro Games’ understanding of character design and astonishing world-building. On the first day of the beta test, Wuthering Waves quickly turned into a big hit with countless searches, discussions, short videos, and live streams on all Chinese platforms.

According to the test players, the overall length of the first beta test is about 3-5 hours, players can experience some of the main stories in the early stages, and try out three playable characters in the wasteland-style continent.

In terms of combat, Kuro Games remained its profession and designed a perfect battle system that allows players to attack enemies by triggering QTEs through parkour in different terrains. Test players also stated that the three-role switching combat system in Kuro’s previous game still exists, and it can now be used more freely and easily during open-world battles instead of in restricted small rooms. Players can even optimize their combat experience by learning the enemy's skills and countering them.

About the art style part, Kuro has also brought the desolate art style of Punishing: Gray Raven into Wuthering Waves. In addition to the wasteland-style wilderness that was destroyed by the disaster, Kuro designed the downtown area as a strange blend of traditional Chinese architecture and ultra-modern architecture, and perfectly matches the background stories of the game that human rebuilt their homes using the new technology they found after the disaster.

In terms of open-world exploration, Kuro Games has done a moderate job. Aside from the occasional NPC that can be seen and interacted with, players can only see treasure chests and the same small bosses in all the explorable areas repeatedly.

According to the feedback from players so far, the first test of Wuthering Waves was very successful in retaining Kuro Games' professional action design and unique art style, and some players even call it the ProMax version of Punishing: Gray Raven. Wuthering Waves is scheduled for release in 2022, so let's look forward to more surprises from Kuro Games.
