Despite seeing Mixed reviews on Steam so far, I feel my time with the simulation game Sword and Fairy Inn 2 has been worth it, and the playing experience met my expectation.

The title, released on July 8th, begins with the main characters from the popular franchise Sword and Fairy, Zhao Ling'er and Li Xiaoyao, who can be assigned different roles such as chef or waiter. Then, players must serve each day's busy streams of guests who will give their food orders and service ratings.

An engaging combination of researching Chinese cuisine, purchasing resources in the town's market such as rice and fish, and cultivating crops on the farm help players get much fun and interesting rewards like coins.

As a big fan of tycoon games, I feel that the gameplay is light-hearted and less demanding, which, compared with games with more aggressive ambitions, boosts its charm in a way that lets you kill time more effortlessly.

On Steam, the Softstar Entertainment game has received a Mixed rating from over 540 reviews. Some Sword and Fairy Inn fans complained that the map exploration feature from the first title was missing in this sequel. In addition, they felt the UI is, unfortunately, subpar and comparable with mobile games.

These are all very reasonable doubts. However, I quite enjoy the new title's content and gameplay for someone who hasn't played the original Sword and Fairy Inn, and it has some features to keep the gameplay somewhat fresh in the later stage. After the characters and items fully developed and the inn was above level 4, a new "grand strategy" map will be revealed, bringing a new layer to the gameplay. There are also multiplayer modes and cooking minigames.

I noticed a possible bug of a delayed mouse movement due to different computer settings. This may not be the Sword and Fairy Inn game many fans were hoping for, but still a nice and fun tycoon game set in the world of Sword and Fairy to kill some time with.
