Chinese developer Jaspel launched Backpack Hero on Steam on August 15. For now, the game is still in early access and the developer says they will keep updating and improving the game for approximately 7 months until the complete version comes out.

Backpack Hero is a roguelike game where players act as different animals exploring ancient dungeons, caves, swamps, and other places. Unlike the traditional deck-building roguelike game, this is an inventory management roguelike game where players need to collect items and organize their backpacks. The placement of items has huge effects on characters’ power, and players can move items to increase their power.

Currently, the game contains over 300 items, 3 characters, over 40 enemies, and several events, and Jaspel plans to add more to the full game. The fourth character is about to come out in the update next month.

Backpack Hero has received nearly 300 reviews at present, and over 90% are positive. One of the players writes, “Lots of games have had grid-based management systems. Roguelites have also had level and node-based progression for years, such as Slay the Spire or Vault of the Void. But it's the fusion of these two concepts that brings forth a whole new dimension of play and a unique, unforgettable gaming experience. There is no game like Backpack Hero out there.”
