Blizzard Entertainment released a statement saying that the two sides have not yet agreed on a renewal agreement as the existing licensing agreement with NetEase will expire on January 23, 2023. The ending of the contract will suspend most Blizzard game services in China, including World of Warcraft, Hearthstone, and other games.
Insiders said that The9 Limited is negotiating with Microsoft for 1/5 of the total price.
On April 1, 2004, The9 Limited became the exclusive operator of World of Warcraft in China. In 2009, The9 Limited issued an announcement to bid farewell to World of Warcraft, which led to the era of NetEase and Blizzard.
