On November 21st, eFootball Mobile uploaded a video titled “Check this out! This China football hero has taken the World Cup!” and got over 180K views. People soon found out it is a bait-clicking video of in-game footage but some of them still enjoy it since it “feels good”.

The video tells the story of a talented Chinese football player who eventually “rebirths” into a nameless substitute player in the China National Football Team. During the match against the Brazil team in the World Cup 2022, the protagonist showed his outstanding football skill and turned the tide of the match. The storytelling is intentionally exaggerated, filled with fictional “ultimate moves,” and the video does not hide the game UI, showing it is pure entertainment than faking news. However, many people rated it “still better than real life.”

The China National Football Team has performed poorly in the past years. They had not made it to the World Cup 2022 or any World Cups of the last two decades. Most Chinese football enthusiasts had lost faith in the team. There are many popular memes about how the China National Football Team awkwardly performed. Several days ago, Beijing Guoan, a professional football club in China, lost a match against an amateur team, making people feel more disappointed about the future of professional football teams in China.

Without hope of real matches, many enthusiasts play games like FIFA or eFootball. It is common to see people uploading videos about how they managed to control the China Football Team winning the World Cup in those games. And eFootball Mobile took this idea into their video. Some commented on the video, “it only happens in a feel-good novel.”
