Last year, the Chinese video game market grossed 265.884 billion CNY (~39.6 billion USD), a year-on-year decrease of 30.629 billion CNY (~4.56 billion USD) or a drop of 10.33%, according to Gamma Data's annual game industry report for 2022.

Gamma Data cites the decrease as "negatively influenced by the Covid-19 pandemic, hindering game companies' production, and R&D capabilities, causing project delays." Also, "a Lack of market confidence means gaming companies are harder to find financial support and invest in human resources."

Besides this, the report mentioned that players had reduced their expenses, and their entertainment consumption had decreased significantly. The overseas expansion of Chinese gaming companies also intensified the competition in the global mobile market.
