Disco Elysium's new Collage Mode has been met with backlash from fans who see it as a way for the game's current owners to distract from the ongoing legal conflict between them and the game's departed lead creatives.
Fans view the addition as a way to strip the game of its anti-capitalist politics and turn it into a vehicle for shipping and memes. Many fans have taken to Twitter, Steam, and Reddit to criticize ZA/UM and implore others to pirate the game until it is returned to the stewardship of the former lead devs.
Despite recent claims from ZA/UM that legal troubles have been resolved or dropped, the former lead devs still see their dismissal from the company as part of a larger campaign against them and plan to pursue legal action.
