Shanghai Reinvigorates Esports Scene With Relaunch of Masters Tournament in Partnership with China Media Group

On October 11, the Shanghai Sports Bureau and China Media Group's Shanghai Station inked a strategic partnership framework to co-develop the esports industry. At the core of the agreement, the two entities, along with the government of Jing'an District, will co-host the relaunched Esports Shanghai Masters Tournament. This marks the first esports event that China Media Group's Shanghai Station will co-host, bringing a significant upgrade to Shanghai's own esports brand.

After a two-year hiatus, the Esports Shanghai Masters Tournament is back online. The Shanghai Station of the China Media Group will fully engage in the event, working closely with the Shanghai Sports Bureau to elevate this homegrown competition. The partnership aims to advance Shanghai's digital sports infrastructure, sustain healthy growth in the esports industry, and solidify Shanghai's reputation as both a globally recognized sports city and the mecca of esports. The city's Publicity Department and the Bureau of Culture and Tourism are also paying close attention and offering their support to the tournament.

Jing'an District, a leader in Shanghai's esports industry development, will continue to be the long-term host for the Masters Tournament. At the signing ceremony, strategic cooperation agreements were made among the city's esports association, the Jing'an District Sports Bureau, International Media Port (Shanghai) Cultural Development Co., Ltd., and Daning Asset Management (Group) Co., Ltd. Over the next five years, the tournament will take place in Jing'an and aims to make a global impact by leveraging Shanghai's esports resources and the power of China Media Group's Shanghai Station.

The 2023 Esports Shanghai Masters Tournament is scheduled for December 1-5 at the Shanghai Jing'an Sports Center. The event will feature official competitions in League of Legends, Honor of Kings, DOTA2, and Identity V, along with a Street Fighter V exhibition match. During the competition, the tournament will also host industry forums to delve into topics like esports industry standards, cultural development, and business models. Representatives from event sponsors and the event-executing unit received partnership certificates at the signing ceremony.
