Unity Reportedly to Spin Off Its Business in China

Game engine Unity is said to spin off its business in China for more local ownership and autonomy, according to a report by Sina citing Reuters.

Many of the popular titles from China are based on this engine, including HoYoverse’s Genshin Impact and Tencent’s Honor of Kings.

The software company is in talks with investors for a business valued at over 1 billion USD, the report says. With this new plan in China, Unity is aiming to expand its software applications to smart city modeling, industrial design, and metaverse,

Zhang Junbo, the CEO of Unity China, said to Reuters’ sources that Unity will hire over 1,000 engineers in the coming years and establish offices in Beijing and Guangzhou, in addition to its main office in Shanghai.
