Square Enix today announced its first quarter (April~June) financial results for fiscal year 22-23. Total revenue for the quarter was 74.876 billion JPY, down 15.5% year-over-year, and operating profit was 14.43 billion JPY, 16.7% compared to the same period last year.

The digital entertainment business, mainly video games, reported sales of 53.57 billion JPY for the quarter, down 23.3% year-over-year, and an operating profit of 14.14 billion JPY, down 17.5% compared to the same period last year. Although the monthly subscriptions of Final Fantasy 14 have contributed a lot to the revenue, the lack of popular new titles in this quarter, coupled with the continued poor performance of several mobile games currently in operation, led to a decline in overall revenue.

At the end of the financial results, Square Enix said there would be highly anticipated new works this fiscal year, including Valkyrie Elysium, Forspoken, and Final Fantasy 7: Crisis Core Reunion.
