Four freshly graduated developers at TiMi Studio Group released a rhythm game demo named 曲中剑 (Song of the Sword) in August. The game soon attracted many players who have given it a 9.4/10 review rate on TapTap, at the time of writing.

In the game, players will use a sword to block the opponents’ attacks, in time with a rhythm. There is a significant sparking effect and a satisfying clanking sound if the player performs a perfect block. Each dueling stage is based on a piece of classical Chinese music and the opponents’ attack pattern is designed to follow the rhythm of the music. The result feels like a dance of swords performed by both sides.

The game stages are well-designed and perfectly suit the theme of the music. In the stage Ambush from Ten Sides, players will face the famous general Xiang Yu and his army. In Eighteen Songs of a Nomad Flute, there is a sandstorm partially obscuring the main character and the opponent as if they were fighting in the desert.

The demo has received a stellar review rating in no time. Many players including those who had negative feelings towards Tencent’s TiMi Studio Group highly praised the game. Some commented the game was a good combination of Chinese classic music and Sekiro’s blocking system.
