Remedy Signed an Agreement With Tencent to Develop a Free-to-Play, Co-op Shooter Game

Recently, Remedy posted an announcement on its official site, indicating they are working on a new free-to-play, cooperative, PvE shooter game which is codenamed Vanguard. This project received investment from Tencent.

In the announcement, Vanguard is still in the proof-of-concept phase. The development expense in the first year, according to the declaration, is at the typical AAA game level. The cost of which is being covered jointly by Remedy and Tencent.

Vanguard will release on PC and console. Remedy will publish and operate it worldwide except selected Asian markets, while Tencent will be responsible for localizing, publishing, and operating the game in those areas. 

In addition, Tencent was licensed to develop a mobile version of Vanguard. Tencent will cover the development and publishing cost, and the mobile version will be published worldwide by Tencent.

Remedy CEO Tero Virtala notes that Vanguard represents Remedy’s first entry into Games as a Service. They are excited about the long-term partnership with Tencent.
