China’s leading game streaming platform Douyu recently reported its unaudited financial results for Q4 and the entirety of 2021. Its revenue for 2021 was 9.17 billion CNY (~1.44 billion USD), compared with a 9.6 billion CNY revenue for 2020. This indicates a revenue decrease of 4.5% year-on-year.

The revenue decrease was primarily driven by a decline in the year-over-year for live streaming, advertising and other revenues to a lesser extent. All while the licensing fees for esports games are increasing, the company’s financial report and management team disclosed.

The company has slid from profit to loss in 2021. The net loss for the full year of 2021 was 620.2 million CNY (~97.3 million USD), compared with a net income of 404.7 million CNY in 2020.

During the fourth quarter, Douyu ‘s mobile MAU increased by 7.2% year over year to 62.4 million. However, advertising and other revenues in the fourth quarter last year decreased by 40.3% to 118.5 million CNY (~18.6 million USD),

Douyu will deepen the cooperation with game companies, invest more in game-related original content, expand and fulfill the user communities. Besides, as the company has been built around hardcore game fans, the next plan is to increase the penetration rate among casual players, the management team said.
