As any souls game goes, Elden Ring has its fair share of memorable monster designs. But even the most dedicated souls fan would admit that some monsters can look and act a little overwhelming. This complaint of basilisks getting more than 2,000 upvotes certainly says something.

On April 7th, a Chinese player named “洛斯里克大橘” (means “the Lothric big orange tabby”) uploaded a video on Bilibili showing some gameplay of a mod they created. This mod changes the main character’s and many enemies’ models into 3D Chinese characters. For example, the player’s model has been changed to “主角” (the main protagonist), and the Giant Ants have been changed to “蚂蚁” (ants).

“Big Orange” also demonstrated the changes in creepy enemies like Fingercreepers and Basilisks. Basilisks have been changed into Chinese characters “咒蛙” (“cursed frog” in official Chinese translation)  while the Fingercreepers are “大手” (means “giant hand”). One thing noteworthy is the special finger with a magic ring of Fingercreeper has a standalone Chinese character model “中指” (“middle finger”).

Some players commented on the video saying these cursed creatures has haunted them for weeks and now they finally have the courage to explore the game, with the help of this mod. Some others considered the mod as an accolade to the indie game “Word Game”, and someone joked it was the weirdest localization they ever saw.

It is not the first self-made Elden Ring mod by “the Lothric big orange tabby”. There are 15 videos uploaded with various mods they made, including Link from Zelda, Jotaro and Dio from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, and a hilarious mod that changed everyone’s face into Emoji.
