As of now, there is no official release date for the sequel. However, there is reason to be optimistic. James Cameron confirmed in his recent tweet that a second ALITA movie is in progress. Besides that, Rodriguez also has expressed that Disney is interested in building a franchise. He mentioned that he will be working on the Alita films in between his work on the Avatar sequels.
While there is no official plot for Alita: Battle Angel 2, it is expected to continue the storyline established in the first film and draw inspiration from the manga series Gunnm (Battle Angel Alita) by Yukito Kishiro. Rodriguez has revealed that Cameron has already outlined general storylines for the potential sequels, providing a foundation for future installments.
