Game engine Unity has formed a joint venture in China with Alibaba, China Mobile, G-Bits, HoYoverse, OPPO, PCI Tech and Douyin. The new company is valued at one billion USD.

Zhang Junbo, general manager of Unity in the Greater China region, will serve as president and CEO of Unity China.

In the short term, Unity China will build localized versions of its core products for developers, including a Chinese version of the Unity Editor. Unity China will also become the exclusive distributor of Unity’s global products and services in China, according to its statement.

The announcement came days after a report by Reuters stated Unity's plan of a spin-off for more local ownership and autonomy.
